Alternative to the expensive Argan Oil

I've been using Josie Maran's Argan Oil, but it's just too damn expensive!
So after reviewing a bunch of cheaper alternatives, I decided to order this one.
Fast shipping, wrapped tight in layers and layers of bubble wrap.. so the shipping was great.

I was kind of worried about the plastic pump packaging, as shown in picture. When I saw the tight bubble wrapping, I thought, 'great... the bubble wrap probably pushed on the pump and leaked all over the place!' But it wasn't a pump!
It had a glass dropper on top with a rubber squeezer, which is the same as Josie Maran. With the dropper, I can control how much I want, not like the pump, not to mention it's a waste of plastic!

Okay, so for the comparison:

Smell: JM has more of a very feint nutty smell (I wouldn't call it strong like some reviewers say about JM or other expensive Argan oil) while Elma & Sana has a very, very feint sour smell that resembles a hint of vinegar and few drops of citrus (in the bottle... I had to smell it for a whole minute to figure out what the smell was). But once applied, JM's nutty smell disappears completely while E&S's sour smell disappears and leaves a soft nut/citrusy smell, which is unexpected but not in an unpleasant way.

Consistency: Surprisingly, E&S's oil was thicker than JM. I applied a drop of both brands on my legs and tilted them. JM ran faster than E&S.

Absorbency on skin: After applying a drop of each brand on my leg, I rubbed them the same number of times in a circular motion and waited. They both absorbed quickly, pretty much at the same time. Both do not leave a greasy residue. Absorbed quickly and skin feels very moist & soft.

Absorbency on hair: Surprisingly... E&S oil absorbed faster on hair! I took a little portion of hair from each side and applied one drop of the oil. At first, both hair looked too oily... clumping to each other like wet hair. After stroking and massaging the oil into my hair, E&S absorbed faster, and JM was still oily. When I took each portion of hair and lifted it up straight, the E&S hair was standing, while JM was sagging... like it was being weighed down. Never noticed that before...

Price: E&S 4oz was $26.99 whereas I got the .5 oz of JM at Sephora for $14 (and the 4oz is a whopping $96!!)

So... I will buy from this brand from now on. I was worried about finding a good, if not great, cheaper alternative to the expensive from all the reviews. I thought I would probably have to try 3-5 different brands! But I'm very happy with the buy. I recommend this to first time users who are apprehensive about the high price of Argan oil market, and also to frequent expensive oil users who want to save lots of money!

Comparing color and thickness, the oils appear the same. The only differences I noticed are slightly different odors and skin sensations with these four oils I purchased at the same time from Amazon. The AAA SHEA butter has a slightly musky / musty odor. The Watts Beauty has a slight deodorized odor about it and increases my heart rate slightly upon application to my skin and appears to engage my immune system as my neck glands will swell shortly after application. The Slice of Nature and the ELMA&SANA have the freshest odor of the four with the Slice of Nature having the stronger nutty scent of the two; skin application feels very soothing and calming in a quenching sensation sort of way. The Slice of Nature feels a little thicker and leaves more of a barrier on my skin whereas the ELMA&SANA seems to absorb in better and be less noticeable upon touch and less sheen reflection. This particular EMA&SANA Golden Argan Oil gets 5 stars from me every time. The differences are subtle and most consumers probably would not be able to tell the difference at all. Not the Best

I wanted to try a different brand of argan oil just to see if there is really a difference between the rather large selection of oils available on amazon. And there is a difference. Of all that I've tried, this is the least effective for me. It is of thinner consistency than others, has a very faint scent of generic vegetable oil and is colorless. From all accounts, the natural scent of argan oil is similar to olives and the color is slightly brown with consistency being a little on the thicker side. My favorite brand, Watts, has all these qualities and works great. I have used this one now for about two weeks; the oil does not absorb into my skin as well as the others, and skin feels dry again the following day whereas with Watts I can shower every other day and my skin stays smooth and moisturized even by the third day. Honestly it feels like sesame oil or jojoba oil which does not mean that's what it is - maybe the method of processing takes away from the argan oil's integrity. All is not lost, however; I can use it to remove eye makeup and will continue using on my body until the bottle is empty, but I won't buy it again and will reorder the Watts which still can't be beat. I understand that others like this brand very much but for me it is just so-so.

I just figured out why this is different from the Watts. The argan nut for this one has been roasted before the oil is extracted. Watts extracts their oil from the raw nut.

Don't waste money other argan oils - this one is wonderful

This argan oil is organic and cold pressed. Other companies charge three times as much. I have rosacea so my skin is very sensitive. I love this oil! I am amazed at how soft it makes my skin, and that it is not greasy at all!! It does have an initial nutty smell but the scent goes away within a minute or two. I highly recommend this. I also use a few drops to moisturize my arms and legs. Great deal for a great product!

An all-purpose beauty product? I think so!

Over the years I've paired down my skin routine quite a bit. Instead of multiple types of cleansers and moisturizers, I'm down to one moisturizer, one cleanser, and one occasional exfoliating treatment. When I heard about Argan Oil, I had to try it. It sort of makes sense that oil would "trick" your skin into thinking it's hydrated enough so that the cycle of overproduction of oil would cease. Our hormones work the same way, so why not our skin? And the idea that I could use this on my hair, nails and body was intriguing.
I checked out the Josie Maran line and concluded that it was WAY too expensive. I ended up getting this one and have been using it for about 6 months. Seriously: TWO drops moisturizes my entire face. I initially was mixing one drop with my regular moisturizer but slowly phased out my old moisturizer. I've had blackheads on my nose for 10 years that have never gone away until I started using argan oil. The acne scarring I did have has been greatly reduced. I use it around my eyes as well and my dark circles have been helped.
I also combine this with my body lotion. Once every other week, I use an exfoliating mitt (hammam mitt) and put oil on my body in the shower and scrub away. When I'm done, my skin is perfectly moisturized AND exfoliated. I use it on my nails. I mix it with my conditioner.
If you're weary, get a small trial/travel size. Start with SMALL amounts and work your way up. Maybe you need 2-3 drops on your face. Maybe less. Try mixing it with your other products so you can gradually become accustomed to the texture. I think that rule of "too much of a good thing" applies here. While others have said it absorbs quickly, it certainly doesn't for me when I apply too much. I appreciate a dewy look, but I definitely don't want to look greasy!
I'm trying to think of a downside to the oil and the only thing I can think of is it's a little expensive. However, the fact that it's a Fair Trade product and rather strictly distributed is a huge plus for me.
One more thing: as with most products, it takes time (especially if you're trying to heal old scars). You're not going to see drastic results in a month. Scars probably take the longest to heal when using any product. Although, I've seen results in all other areas (moisture, acne, fine lines, etc) rather quickly.
BUYER BEWARE: Look at the ingredients carefully. There's a big difference between "100% argan oil" and "Contains 100% argan oil." If it's truly argan oil and nothing else, it will only have one ingredient listed! I looked at a lot of argan oil products before buying this one. Some add a fragrance to it (innocent enough) but some contain a whole litany of ingredients and argan oil is way down on the list.

Great stuff

I am a frugal person. I don’t like to spend extra money on products, especially if they are not going to work. I tried LT Organics argan oil, because a friend told me about it. Love it!

I just received my LT Organics 100% Pure Argan Oil a week ago. And all I can say is wow! I was really happy to find out that the quality matched the oil’s description. It is true 100% pure argan oil and it does not contain any additives, or fragrances. It is certified organic extra-extra virgin argan oil.

First, I tried it on my hands. I figured this is the safest place to test the product. I have suffered from dry, scaly hands for years. I applied a drop twice a day for 7 days. I was happy that the argan oil was not greasy and did not have an odor. I can already see a difference. My hands look fuller, softer, smoother and the veins are disappearing! This argan oil is making my hands look younger.

Next, I tried the argan oil in my hair. I have frizzy, out of control hair. I treated my hair 30 minutes prior to washing. Now, it is manageable and not frizzy at all.

The big test came when I used it on my face. I pick and choose the products that I put on my face very carefully. I have oily skin and was afraid of what the oil would do. Over the course of the week, I have noticed my pores shrinking a little. My skin is beginning to look healthy.

I can’t wait to see the results after I use this argan oil for a month.

Worth every penny!

I was pleased that I received my LT Organics 100% Pure Argan Oil quickly. The ordering and shipping process went very smoothly. Also, I received follow-up e-mails from LT Organics making sure everything was going well. I am extremely happy with their customer service.

The product arrived better than I thought it would. I have ordered other products and not much care was given to them. It appeared that LT Organics made sure I received my oil without damage.

I was happy to see that the argan oil came with a spray applicator. This makes it easy to use, without waste. It makes it easier to apply evenly.

LOVE IT!

I REALLY love this stuff. I have the hardest time getting my hair soft. I usually use a mixture of oils for my hair (EVOO and grapeseed oil, along with a few drops of lavender or some other essential oil) to moisturize it. I live in a very dry climate, and my hair dries out very easily. I added about 20 drops to 9oz of the mixture and shook it. I used about a quarter sized amount of the new mixture in my hair and it made a HUGE difference. My hair was not only moisturized, but SOFT. A LOT softer than it had been for a while! I've been using the same mixture for a while so I knew it had to have been the argan oil.

There is no unpleasant smell. If there IS supposed to be a scent, I didn't really notice one. At least, nothing that wouldn't go away quickly. It absorbed pretty easily into my hair. I also use the oil on my skin, and I haven't had any problems with it absorbing into my skin, either.

I have transitioning relaxed to natural African American hair, very dry at times and kinky coily and wavy. I would definitely recommend it for women of color, especially if they are wearing natural hair, or transitioning into natural hair. It works wonders when paired with a blow dryer.

Softening and more

This oil is great for using on wet hair to prevent frizz, but recently after having an experience with shingles I started rubbing it on the site of the sores and to my astonishment, this oil worked very quickly to reduce the pain and itch. Although the relief was temporary about 2-3 hours, it worked better than OTC cortisone cream or antihistamines. I recently ordered another bottle for this reason only and will always keep a bottle of this oil at home.

Great price for an Amazing Argan Oil!

I use many Now Foods products, so I decided to go with this versus the more expensive Argan oils out there and although I can't tell if it's doing much for my fine lines (since I've only used it for a month or so), I can say that it feels great on my face/neck and hands! Super silky, but not oily. Pleasant faint scent. I have eczema on my hands, so I apply enough to my face/neck and cover my hands with it after. Very pleased overall.

Note: I only apply this before bedtime as the sun will surely cause even more UV damage if you use any time of oil during daytime.

Perfection in a Bottle

I was introduced to Morocco Oil at my last haircut and I couldn't believe what wonders it worked on my graying, slightly frizzy hair. Soooo smooooooth! When I checked it out on Amazon, I almost swallowed my tongue at the price, though, so I started researching. Turns out, Morocco Oil is silicone-based and only has a small amount of Argan Oil in it. That silicone will build up and cause problems down the line, according to what I read, so I wondered if I could just buy the Argan and skip all the fillers.

Shea Terra's version had great reviews, and it seems to be pure Argan so I invested and I've been thrilled! I not only use it on my hair to help with the frizzes, but also my face. It soaks in instantaneously and doesn't leave any greasy feeling whatsoever. No, it's not cheap, but I love that it's a natural product with no perfumes or fillers. I'd pay extra for that privilege but with Shea Terra Argan Oil I don't have to!

I wrote a bit of a negative review at first but after using it for a few months it I change my review to 5 stars. It is a great oil for the skin. The smell is similar to sesame oil but is much milder. This is a great price for the amount of oil you get.

Great Hair Treatment

I bought this to use on my hair after reading about it in another review. I use it solely as a treatment for my hair, using about a dime size amount worked through starting with the ends. Usually I put it on wet hair and then tie in up into a bun and sleep on it overnight. When I let my hair down in the morning, it is silky soft and shiny. Likewise, when I apply it on wet hair and then immediately blow dry, it keeps my hair soft, shiny, manageable, and healthy-looking. I've gotten several compliments on my hair looking soft and the color more rich. My hair stylist swears by the stuff too, which makes me feel confident that it's more than a passing fad.

Great product many different uses for it!

You can use this as a face moisturizer by adding a few drops on your face and neck, you can add a few drops to your favorite facial toner, you can add a few drops to a face mask, you can use to moisturize your lips or by adding vanilla extract to fine brown sugar you can use a lip scrub. I like to use this and add some to my foundation and also love to use this on my hair it works great for split ends and you can use daily to repair your hair from damage of blow drying as well. I have also used this on my cuticles and bottom of my heels to soften it really does the job! You can also add to your favorite lotion and put on after you take a shower! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone especially since you have so many different options of using it!!!

A must have for any woman!

I ordered this Argan Oil after hearing A LOT of wonderful things about not only the product, but this company as well. To start, the item was shipped quickly and packed great inside of a bag and also sealed so it would not leak. So far, I have used this product as a daily moisturizer on my face and nightly on the ends of my hair. My hair is soft and manageable when usually it is dry & brittle; My skin which is combination between dry & oily is now almost flawless so I have seen a significant improvement in both only after using a few times! I was skeptical at first, but my results are undeniable. This product has worked its way into my daily beauty regime.

Thanks Poppy Austin I Got More Than I Bargained For!

I don't often sway outside my usual Essential Oils brand to buy another product, but this one stood out from the crowd to me and I couldn't find it anywhere else. I knew that Argan Oil had been used for centuries for culinary purposes, for its peanut buttery taste, and used in lots of Moroccan cooking. However, I wasn't familiar with it's cosmetic uses until recently, nor that it could help my achy pains I often have.

Argan Oil is known to be great for the skin and hair, and I can testify that it works!
*I have dry patchy skin but only in various places such as my right cheek, my right elbow where my arm rests on my desk 15 hours a day, and my feet.
* I have normal to oily scalp but frizzy split ends. 

* I have body aches from getting older, especially from physical labor.

So with all of my problems that I have rolled into one, this product met the needs of each. When I saw it go on sale, I grabbed it while I could!

I also have important prerequisites for any product I use.

* They must be 100% Pure and Organic, and be Ecologically Certified and approved. 

* I prefer cold pressed products as I know how they are made, and what ingredients `don't' get into them. 

* They must be for all skin types, as mine is across the board as I am aging. 

* They must not be oily on my hands as I type all day.
* The product must last, and not dry up in the bottle.

Argan Oil by Poppy Austin has met all my requirements and more.

At first, I simply applied it to my cheek, my elbow, my shoulder and lower back, and my feet, and the rest of me got my usual moisturizer. It worked so good I began using is all over.

The same thing happen with my split ends. After using my every day conditioner and putting Argan only on the ends, I used it all over my head just a little less at the scalp. It brushed through my long hair just marvelously, and the ends dried just as smooth as can be.

Mind you, I am only a week into using my Poppy Austin's Argan oil, but I can't say enough how quickly I noticed the positive changes. After three hair conditionings, six days of body moisturizing, and four heavy physical work days in the garden, I guess I have replaced five other products, that really were not working to begin with!

I read that if processed correctly the oil is supposed to last in the bottle 12-18 months, which is about three times longer than any other cosmetic product on the market. However, as it is this good, I am sure I will use it all long before then.

Not what I expected :(

Well I am a research Queen ! I don't like to buy something without knowing about it first so I saw the great reviews and also went on the website to make sure it was 100 % argan oil and nothing else and they didn't list all the ingredients on website. So I ordered it and well its is not 100% argan oil... it has all these other things inside of it.... these are the ingredients in order on the bottle....cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, cyclomethicone, argania spinosa kernal oil (argan oil, capryly Methicone, phenyl trimethicone, fragrance. Now the only reason that I am upset about that is because I could of got the exact same product at sally's beauty supply for [...]. The products works good and it smells really good im just upset I paid 30 for the same thing.

Okay so I can be more descriptive the product that is at sallys is called one and only argan oil.... I did not buy the agadir at sallys. So paying 30 for the exact same thing with the exact same ingredients is what is upsetting when the product at sallys cost ALOT LESS(I DO NOT RECOMMEND GETTING THESE PRODUCTS)!

I am now using a product called SHEA TERRA ORGANICS moroccan argan oil and its 100 % pure and natural certified organic. And on the ingredients it doesn't have anything other than 100 % pure ecocert certified organic argan oil. I got it here on amazon and its price is less then the agadir. Nothing but Perfection!

This Argan hair oil is nothing short of amazing. I'm a product junkie with thick/frizzy hair, and have NEVER experienced a hair product like this before. I have tried this formula both ways: on wet and on dry hair. Using it on dry hair gives it a bit of a shine...and even a little body. In fact, up until yesterday the results I achieved by putting it on my dry hair weren't even worth me leaving a review.

Yesterday, I tried something different. I put a little bit (a dime size) in the palm of my hand both when I shampooed and conditioned my hair. I let the conditioner/argan oil set in my hair for about 10 minutes (also combed it through the ends). It instantly changed the texture...felt like silk as I rinsed it out. Combed it straight, sat under the dryer for 30 min. After that I put a dime size in before blow drying it (no other products) for about 8-10 minutues tops (the technique of blow drying isn't to dry it....but the blow dryer infuses the oil even more into the hair strands while straightening it a bit). Use a high speed hand-held blow dryer that'll protect the hair (I use a Pibbs...see my review).

Then I flat ironed it (with my FHI flat iron)...and oh my God, I achieved the same bouncy, shiny, soft, no frizzes, smell good hair effect I would have had if I'd visited my salon. I now know my hairdresser's secret...they put this stuff in their shampoo (not a lot) and it makes an incredible difference. I could tell my husband loved it as well. At work today, I've received a ton of compliments from co-workers. Now, I can do my own hair and look fabulous until my next salon visit.

Disadvantages: None. It smells great (for days), a lot goes a long way, makes your hair healthy, protects it from heat, a fantastic leave-in, a great conditioner, doesn't leave a build-up (I use it everyday), isn't oily/greasy (it's fully absorbed by the hair strands)...so if you're looking for a wet-look shine..this isn't it. The hair absorbs it, and shines from within..sort of like a healthy glow.

This is one of the very few products that is well worth the price tag. My little bottle has lasted me three months...and I haven't even used half of it (I've used it everyday too - dime size daily usage).
